Do you pay attention to your tone of voice?
Face to face, 38% of communication is based upon your tone of voice and only 7% for your actual words.Do you judge others intent v. taking a moment and having empathy?
You never know what someone is going through. Judging their intent with a comment is a stunning weakness on your end.
Don’t judge intent – if you feel as if someone said something to you that was negative, ask them! It’s so easy. You don’t have to think about it all day long and wonder…just ask.
Do you respond quickly? Or, do you take the time to share the right story if the email lends itself to that type of conversation?
The email is a great way to share a story, sell a point, show your personality – take advantage of the tools in place to share your brand and show WHO you are.
Do you move your hands? Do you practice speaking in front of groups? Do you film yourself with you iPhone so you can watch and fix anything you need to fix?
How do you have tough conversations? Do you have radical candor?
If you don’t have radical candor/honest conversations with colleagues and employees, you are not being kind. Kindness is telling people, the right way, how they can best succeed and showing them what they could be doing better.
Bosses who ignore the obvious, are doing their employees harm. I see this happen time and time again – a CEO will want to fire someone because of poor work product, but they haven’t had any feedback from their supervisor. Fire the supervisor – not the employee.
Practice makes perfect. PRACTICE and STUDY.
