I sent out slides, to thousands of people, with TWO, not just one, but TWO words spelled wrong. In fact, the word brand was spelled wrong. How? Why? It was the first slide – even worse because it sat on the screen longer while people waited to join in on a session. Even worse, I used it for a pitch meeting. For a large client.
Here is what I want you to take from this – you aren’t perfect. Am I happy about it? No, of course not. I didn’t spell check the slides – an AMAZING partner in crime creates the most beautiful slides for me…and I DIDN’T CHECK THE SLIDES. I should have. But I didn’t. Will this happen again? Absolutely. Will I be more intentional about looking at every word? Sure. Is this the end of my career? No.
If you have a strong BRNDA (lol), you will make it. People will assume it was a one time mistake versus something you always do. I see so many executives caught up in small and large mistakes – it takes more to bring you down than one mistake or even 1000 mistakes. Be consistent, keep going, play offense (This is what I’m doing now), and move forward. Don’t let mistakes hold you back. Learn. Grow. Most importantly, MOVE ON.
