You have to have this in order for people to listen/hear/respect/follow what you’re saying.
Brand strength. You have to have it in order for people to listen/hear/respect/follow what you’re saying. It always makes me feel bad for the person who wants to argue with someone on their personal platform, mainly Facebook, but they haven’t stayed in touch or commented on anything that person has posted in a LONG time. Here is what that looks like – someone posts something, typically political, and then a ‘friend’ who didn’t comment, post, share, or even like a post in more than a year decides to engage with the post. They don’t say hi, or engage politely, but simply go straight to the argument or post a completely opposite opinion…no niceties, no greeting, nothing…just an argument.
You might be right. You might be able to win the argument (If you see it that way), blindfolded. Here is the problem – YOU HAVE ZERO BRAND STRENGTH or BRAND EQUITY. What is does to your personal brand is two – fold.
1. Says you ‘don’t care’ about that person, but only care about making a point.
2. You perceive your point is so important and you think that they should LISTEN TO YOU, hear you, and then somehow change their opinions. Funny thing, you don’t have a relationship.
Remember this: People hear thoughts/concerns/opinions from people they have a relationship with, or those who have proven themselves to be thought leaders/experts in a certain field or line of thought. If you haven’t take the time to build your personal brand, but comment like it’s your job, you are not BUILDING brand, you are showing how UNAWARE you are.
