Working Parents & Company Policies
Companies – you may have to re-do your policies for working parents. THIS IS INCREDIBLY TOUGH. Grace is needed, policies are needed, flexibility is needed.
You should be living through a filter of your brand words. Are you innovative? Well then – be innovative. Some parents have kids doing online and not allowed to go back to school just yet – they are panicked. MOMENTS LIKE THESE ARE WHEN BRANDS CAN BE MADE OR CRUSHED. Support the parents, have clear expectations because after all, you still need to have a fully operational staff, but be innovative with times, meetings, and schedule shifts. Many of you are doing this already – MANY of you aren’t.
Managers, C-Suite, SVP’s, VP’s etc who have teams under you. Your leadership equity will either grow or be crushed. Communicate, listen, have grace, and create clear expectations and guidelines – but don’t ignore the current situation. Be flexible and empathetic.
Working mom’s and dad’s…be intentional with work – don’t think about your kids and stop the guilt. You have a job because you need to create financial stability and pay the bills – THIS IS OK. Be intentional at home when you’re with your kids – put the phone down, play with them, look them in the eye. You can have more time, better time and moments that last a lifetime if you just create intentionality in the moments you are either WORKING or LIVING.
Like my grandfather used to say – a bad day is being chased by Nazi’s…in the snow…while they are shooting at you…Then he would say, ‘I was shot in the leg and still ran 6 miles.’ THIS IS NOT A BAD DAY. We will get through this – keep perspective. From one entrepreneurial and/or working parent to the other – we will get through this.
