Tom Landry, Nick Saban and…Kliff Kingsbury?
Tom Landry, Nick Saban and … Kliff Kingsbury?
Some of you may not know that I am this OLD SCHOOL, but I loved the days of football when the games was played in the cold snow and the coach made a statement on the sidelines by his style. The days of old were seen in the coat and tie of Tom Landry and his fedora hat, resulting in the Dallas Cowboy Dynasty. Today we have Nick Saban who is chic in Alabama style. Bama logos, great fitting shirts and pants and the swept back dark hair – always neat and always perfectly clad. He is “The Polo Look” and current king of college football. Some even saying the unthinkable, Bear Who?
Now the latest style coach is Hollywood look-alike Kliff Kingsbury of the 4-0 Texas Tech Red Raiders. This designer wearing, style conscious coach who loves Tommy Hilfiger and Marc Jacobs, who is often referenced back to Hollywood Heart Throb Ryan Gosling (to each their own opinion on what a real heart throb is). He is the latest in style, and is an up and coming college coach superstar. It appears for now that his style on the field and off the field is inspiring the team around him but like any young designer in today’s world, he is yet to be tested by the challenges of stiff competition, the cold rain of an October game and the last second tick of the clock that determines if his team is bowl bound or watching the games on TV over the holidays.
His coaching contract even includes creative control over the uniforms of the team. He said he wanted to be able to have a feel for what his team wanted to wear. He continues to say that he thinks it makes a big difference because if they look good, they play good.’ This is true in every area of life.
I love his swagger, even the idea that he wants to meet his Hollywood look alike, Ryan Gosling, but excuse my old school approach…I love a winner. Looking great is important, and inspiring others is so important when it comes to understanding and promoting one’s Personal and Professional Brand.’ In the end, you have to put up the numbers. You can look great for a season, but dynasties, unlike the fame of Hollywood, are built over time. The same is true for a GREAT BRAND. So keep going Coach Kingsbury, stay in style: But to be the best game in town you have to win the biggest games in town. Good luck.
There is something about Tom Landry and Nick Saban’s style that we just love as Americans. Oh yea, I know what it is, WE LOVE WINNERS. The winning is what gives strength to the style of your favorite sports team and players, and yes, NOW THE COACHES. Build a winning Brand, and call on MODA when you want to make your style a part of what makes you a WINNER.
