Opportunities Lost…Don’t let this be you in 2015
Opportunities that are lost because of a poorly presented Personal Brand and image are countless. We work with, train and consult individuals, corporations and schools across the globe, and we are always shocked at how many opportunities are simply missed because of image mistakes that can be fixed quickly.
Here are a few lost opportunities we saw in 2014:
- MBA student is still looking for work even though he graduated top of his class (If his clothes could talk, (Which they do), they told his interviewers that he didn’t care, wasn’t as qualified as his peers and that details did not matter. He is still searching and tells the faculty that his brain is all that matters…it’s too bad people can’t see into his brain because his brand is awful.
- Man in a mid-manager level position in a Fortune 500 fired because his image told the clients he was sloppy and disrespectful. We heard about this after it had happened and before we did training with this company. The worst part? His manager said he was one of the most talented individuals he had ever come into contact with and that he would never find anyone to fill his position as well as he did. I WISH they would have called us earlier. What a shame.
- Woman at a Fortune 100 was not promoted on five different occasions. Why? She looked out of touch and out of date.’ Irony? She wants to be the head of the IT group. Qualified? Yes! Her image told the team that she just didn’t get it.’ (We are currently working with her good news coming soon I am certain).
- A company focused on reaching millennials. Pictures on their website say old, sloppy, boring even…They have a great logo. They have a well written mission statement. Problem is twofold no corporate brand consistency and no brand filter in place. The result? Lost sales, unhappy shareholders and money wasted on a marketing campaign that was ignored due to the image and communication represented in person and online. We are currently working them and will report on them by Q2 with what we believe will be great news.
Should these clients be devastated by a whole year wasted? NO! Some of our greatest failures become part of our brand story and give us the ability to not only relate to others in the future, but to help them as well. If we learn from our mistakes and move forward in a way that brings positive change we win in the end. You can be the smartest person in the world or the company with the best service, yet your image holds you back indefinitely. We can help you.
