KIDS. KINDNESS. YOUR LEGACY.
KIDS. KINDNESS. YOUR LEGACY.
As I coach execs, we often talk about kids. Here is what I have learned – no matter how much money you make, the designer clothes you wear, the cars you buy, the title of your position, how well decorated your house is, or how many ‘cute’ pictures you put up on your Instagram of your perfect life…the legacy you leave behind is ingrained in your children.
Top 10 things I see in the workplace as a consultant? Gossip/leaving people out. Begins in the home. Are you teaching your kids to be kind? Inclusive? How about when a new player comes onto their sports team? Do you tell your kids to greet them? Go out of their way to help them? Not even a hello? Why not? Does your child ignore the new kid? If a new player comes to a team, I tell our 10 year old to be a friend. WHY? I wouldn’t want a child to feel left out. I want Sophia to be aware of what is going on around her – to ‘SEE’ those moments and step into them. Hopefully, this translates into her work life.
How about a new kid in the classroom? Sitting alone at lunch/having a tough time? Do you hear your children gossiping? Do they hear that from you?
Children, employees, colleagues, and even friends model themselves after you. It’s never too late to change thought patterns, and actions – especially when it comes to being kind.
