Even Leaders Take a Moment to Rest
Hi Friends!
It is hard to believe that we are winding down the month of July and heading into the dog days of August. We have sported our red, white and blue and have hopefully spent a few days in the water whether at the ocean, pool or a beautiful lake. Before we head into fall, back to school, football season, pumpkin picking and the holidays; take a moment to enjoy the moment. It is so easy to be focused on work, kid’s summer schedules and running from one meeting to the other that we forget the magic of summer. Head to your favorite restaurant with a few friends or a date night with your special someone and sit on the patio to enjoy an evening out. Watching our 3.5 year old catch fireflies on our deck is pure magic, as is seeing our teenagers head to the pool with friends to just be teenagers. Can you remember that carefree feeling? I am blessed I have them to remind me to slow down and enjoy the moment.
“Making yourself available 24/7 does not create peak performance,” says psychiatrist Edward Hallowell, an instructor at Harvard Medical School. “Recreating the boundaries that technology has eroded does.” (Bloomberg Businessweek Magazine; “Do Us A Favor, Take A Vacation”)
Don’t race into fall. Take the time to enjoy family and friends before summer ends. School’s out for summer and the fashion should be easy, breezy and chic. Here are a few ideas to help you through the remaining summer days…enjoy your kids, enjoy the sun and take a moment to remember the magical summer of your youth! Whether you take a vacation or a few days off for a staycation, you need to unplug from everything to recharge your batteries. Rest leads to greater productivity. Here is a column with some great tips from Inc.com. CEO Secrets for a Worry-Free Vacation. In the same Bloomberg column quoted above it stated, “Former NASA scientists, working on behalf of Air New Zealand and using testing tools normally reserved for astronauts, recently found that vacationers experienced an 82% increase in job performance post-trip.” Do yourself a favor and take a moment to unplug. I often see a grouping of ‘vacation clothes’ in people’s closets. You don’t have to be on vacation in order to wear some of your vacation clothes…

Have fun with your summer clothes! Even if you are at your own pool or the club house pool, choose a cover-up that is chic! Life is just too short for boring. Hats and sunglasses are a great investment and an instant upgrade to a casual outfit. A maxi dress, gold or silver accents on shoes, embellishment or embroidery on easy day dresses and bright colors are always a good choice.
