Calling on all leaders…

I have been preaching self-awareness and emotional intelligence for years – now it is more important than ever. Definition: Social awareness is looking OUTWARD to learn about and appreciate others. If you have a high level of social awareness, you are able to recognize and understand emotion. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? If you aren’t able to interpret cues from other people and understand their EMOTION, not if they are right or wrong – just where they are emotionally – you will NEVER be able to put yourself in their shoes.
In business in general – reading a room, reading body language of people, tone of voice, nuances, watching for cues after words are said, listening for reaction, watching how people sit and walk and so much more under the surface deeper emotions – THIS is what allows you to lead and meet people where they are. When you feel personally attacked it is very hard to be aware and to deploy this skill, but if you can master it, it will serve you well.
Remember, everyone you meet has the potential to teach you something that is incredibly valuable.
