August 2007 Newsletter
Yes, your life can begin to change for the better if you start with the outside and work your way in…
I have learned through my clients that if you look amazing on the outside, it will inspire you to reach for other goals you may have brushed aside on the inside. Looking your absolute best is not as hard as you may think. A few changes here and there can completely alter the way you see yourself as well as how others see you. Getting dressed in the morning can be joyful and something you should look forward to. What we put on can dictate our day, our confidence level and even our work ethic. When we feel good about ourselves, anything is possible!
Our focus is not always on ourselves or our appearance, but we all owe it to ourselves to take some time to update our look. We shop for our children when it’s time to go back to school…so why shouldn’t we do that for ourselves at the start of a new season? I know it’s hard to think about fall clothing when it’s over 100 degress outside, but it is fast approaching and so is a new season to look fabulous in! Warm sweaters, boots, and scarves are starting to arrive in the department stores, and fashion magazines have given some hints to what’s popular for fall. But with summer still in full swing, it can be difficult to decide what to wear now and what to keep an eye out for when the weather (or at least the calendar) turns into September. However, if you wait to buy your fall purchases when it finally “feels” like fall, the best items and the good deals will be gone! The key to enhancing your closet isn’t to buy an entire new wardrobe; it’s adding certain pieces to the clothes and outfits you already own. Follow the tips below to see which items to purchase and, unfortunately, which to hide in the back of your closet until they become trendy once again.
FALL 2007
Designer collections are simple, elegant and glamorous. Gone are the many-layered looks from seasons past, Fall/Winter 2007 is minimalist, combined with strong and interesting fabrics and shapes (such as graphic prints, bold colors). Choose your look from either end of the spectrum: menswear-inspired (Katherine Hepburn, with wide soft pants, vests), or retro glamour from the 40’s (cinched waists, pencil skirts, ultra-feminine). Shapes continue to be a lesson in geometry: triangle, hourglass, bell sleeves.
Metallic is still a very important look, and light silver will be replaced by gunmetal gray. And welcome back leather: jackets, and polished high-tech looks. Major colors this season include green, burnt orange (metallic sheen), deep purple, plaid & houndstooth, and the continuation of the summer trend of multi-colored patterns. Add any bright color to black for a fresh look. For handbag trends, it’s all in the details this season – whether you choose an interesting texture, stylish detailed metallic, or even art-inspired, bags are anything but minimal.
The waist has also returned! Whether on a belted swing coat, a curvy dress or pencil skirt, the emphasis is on the waist. The fitted shift style dress provides a much-needed antidote to all the trapeze shapes of this past summer.
Dresses and Jackets
Delicate Blouses and Pencil Skirts
It’s time for a very classic & glamorous look. Sky-high pumps with a form-fitting pencil skirt, topped off with a high-gloss shirt or top would be just the ticket. This is very 40s, with a wasp-waist (as much as your Spanx will allow!), or even just a flattering high-waist. You most definitely need to wear this look with confidence. As with all the new fashion trends for fall and winter, blouses are showing their soft feminine side. Many are off the shoulder and may have ruffles and bows. You might pair a ruffled silk blouse with lace at the V neckline, and belt it with ribbon at the waist to end up mid hip. The key is to keep them girlie, classic and feminine. The feminine shirts are also a perfect accent with jeans for a night out on the town or a day of shopping with the girls.
Tailored jackets and wide legged pants work for the office… Again, this is the look of Katherine Hepburn circa 1940. Pants are high-waisted and softly pleated. Wear shirts, or vests (three-piece suits making a comeback) and if a fedora fits the look, you’ve styled it right. Color scheme is definitely darker . Try a rich, dark gray for a sophisticated fall look.

AND THE EVER CLASSIC CASHMERE WRAP…There’s a reason that timeless fashion pieces retain their popularity: in this case, the cashmere shawl is the only coverup that you can stash in a tote, use on the airplane as a luxe blanket, and wear over jeans or a little black dress. It’s not only chic and versatile, it’s dramatic.
What Will You See In Make-up Trends…The Drama Queen Is Back.
Soft subtle drama. Warmed up facial tones, using plums and reds at the lips. Black mascara, and slightly lined over, and under the eye lids. Smokey tones as well as plums, are going to be big in eye shadowed this fall and winter.
